RICHARD MILLE CONGRATULATES RENAULT E.DAMS, WINNER OF THE 2016 FORMULA E CHAMPIONSHIP
This weekend in London, the French racing team and partner of the watchmaker took top honours in the constructor category thanks to the victory of Nicolas Prost. His teammate, Sébastien Buemi, was crowned in the championship’s driver category.
Suspense surrounding who would win the 2016 Formula E championship was maintained all the way down to the last race of the season, held in the British capital on the first weekend of July. During a hotly contested race at historic Battersea Park, the Swiss Sébastien Buemi, one of the two drivers for Renault e.dams, succeeded at the last possible moment in making up the three points separating him from Lucas di Grassi of Brazil (ABT Audi) in the overall ranking.
Masterfully securing the pole position 0’’915 ahead of teammate Nicolas Prost, the Vaudois native scooped up those three valuable points in addition to a privileged starting position. Sadly, the latter was of little bene t to the Swiss driver, who was struck during the first lap by di Grassi. The rivals were compelled to continue the race in their second cars, obliging Sébastien Buemi to wait for the very end of the race to pick up up two lifesaving points for the best lap overall. The two-point victory over di Grassi must taste particularly sweet to Buemi, who lost by a single point last year.
For his part, Sébastien Buemi’s teammate Nicolas Prost once again secured the constructor title for Renault e.dams with his victories in both of the British ePrix races. With 115 points, Nicolas Prost placed 3rd in the championship overall, while the team headed by his father Alain, a four-time world champion in Formula 1, and businessman Jean-Paul Driot took home a second straight constructor’s title in the two seasons since the championship debuted. The Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille, a supporter of e.dams since the very beginning, extends heartfelt congratulations to the entire team, as well as to drivers Nicolas Prost and Sébastien Buemi for their spectacular season and its well-earned rewards.
Richard Mille will be back again alongside e.dams on the 9th of November 2016 in Hong Kong for the inaugural race of the 2016-2017 season. The Buemi-Prost duo will be back in the driver’s seat, naturally. As the proverb says, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!’
