Sparks Fly At Monza As Sébastien Ogier Wins 8th WRC Title!

Richard Mille would like to congratulate Sébastien Ogier, who has been partner since 2016, on sealing his Eighth World Championship in Monza on Sunday November 21.

This was a second consecutive win for the Frenchman at the famed Italian circuit, adding to previous triumphs from 2013 to 2018. ‘It’s so hard to describe these emotions. It’s been such an exhausting season. You need to put so much into winning the Championship. We do it for moments like this!’, shares Ogier. There was certainly no lack of see-sawing excitement in a hair-raising contest. Sparks flew as Ogier’s bid for the title almost came to an abrupt end when the front wheel of his Yaris searingly shaved concrete from a chicane. The spectacular screeching couldn’t however put a spoke in his wheels. The end of an exhausting day saw Ogier secure his fifth victory of the season, clinched with a 7.3s margin over long-time rival Elfyn Evans, the lead changed hands no less than six times!

The weekend’s victory also marked the end of Ogier’s long 16-year journey with Julien Ingrassia. ‘We could never have dreamt of a better way for it to end.’ The championship partnership culminated with a 54th career victory finish for Ogier who next year, in semi-retirement, will be contesting only a handful of WRC events. He may however have time to equal the record nine titles held by fellow Frenchman, namesake and Richard Mille partner Sébastien Loeb. The two Sébastien’s account for 17 of the last 18 championships between them. All at Richard Mille hope his eponymous RM 67-02 will spur Sébastien Ogier on to even more success.
